Winner: OC Arthur Smith

I couldn’t go through this list without bringing up Arthur Smith.

All of the positive notes on the offense should have a little asterisk by them and there should be a key at the bottom explaining that “this winner was brought to you by smart coaching.”

By all accounts Smith has been using players correctly when past coaches would have screwed up easy issues. For example, when A.J. Brown got hurt, Smith didn’t act like an idiot and put Humphries on the boundary, he brought up Tajae Sharpe to play on the outside.

If he had moved Humphries out, he would have made two positions worse at once: boundary WR and slot WR.

Another example is how frequently you see Corey Davis catching passes deep down the field. It isn’t all short stuff or routes that take way too long to develop. They are good route concepts and when they do run a double move, they do it to set up something they like and throw it that way.

Smith looks like he knows what he is doing early and the confidence is trickling down to Marcus Mariota, Corey Davis, Tajae Sharpe, and the rest of the offense.
