Two separate media outlets believe that the Tennessee Titans’ biggest training camp battle will be at the wide receiver position.

With only a few training camp battles to speak of for the Tennessee Titans, two different media outlets believe the biggest one will occur at wide receiver.

Both Pro Football Focus’ Brett Chichester and NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal believe that the battle between receivers A.J. Brown, Taywan Taylor and Tajae Sharpe for the No. 3 wideout spot is the team’s biggest.

Of course, the first two receivers in the Titans’ pecking order will be Corey Davis and Adam Humphries—but beyond that there are no guarantees.

With that said, Brown likely already has the edge over Sharpe and Taylor before any of the three hit the practice field. That is, of course, dependent upon Brown staying on the field, as he pulled up with an injury on the first day of practice and is now day-to-day. If it lingers and Brown can’t get back to practice soon, that will severely hurt his chances.

The Titans do have a lot invested in Brown after drafting him in the second round, and both Sharpe and Taylor haven’t done enough to truly impress Titans coaches during their time in the NFL. If anything, Sharpe and Taylor have only shown flashes.

Tennessee needs a shot in the arm in the passing game to improve their 29th-ranked unit from a season ago. Brown still stands as the best chance the Titans have in getting that in 2019. Of course, that’s aside from the addition of Humphries and the return of tight end Delanie Walker.

Brown’s versatility is also key. He can line up on the outside or in the slot, which means the Titans can utilize him all over the field. He’s a physical receiver with good hands and can make big things happen with short passes.

It’s hard to choose between this battle or the one at right guard between Kevin Pamphile and Nate Davis as being more important. The interior of the Titans’ offensive line has to be better than last season, but the same can be said for the passing game.

And to complicate this decision more, both directly affect quarterback Marcus Mariota, who is perhaps the most important player on the roster in regard to the Titans getting over the 9-7 hump in 2019.
