The no brainers (defense)

Kevin Byard, safety

Unless the Madden developers decide that they don’t want to rank a safety higher than 90, this has to be a lock.

As the NFL’s leader in receptions over the last two years combined you really can’t make an argument that he should be the highest rated free safety in the NFL. On top of that he is a stellar tackler and has the stats and film to back that up.

This feels like explaining why water is wet, Byard is an elite player and deserves and elite ranking.

Jurrell Casey, defensive tackle

Last year Casey was just on the cusp with a 89 before the season and he had an even better season in 2018 than he did in 2017. With 7 sacks last year he was one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in the league and he is incredibly well respected by those in the know.

It would be hard for me to imagine a scenario where the developers didn’t see him as better than he was in 2017 which means that getting at least 90 makes sense.
