Do the Tennessee Titans have the next Terrell Owens on their roster?

According to former NFL wide receiver James Jones, the Tennessee Titans might have the next Terrell Owens on their roster.

James heaped praise on Titans wide receiver Corey Davis, who he compared to T.O. during a segment on NFL Total Access.

On the NFL Network show, Jones interrupted the conversation at hand to glowingly give Davis a compliment, saying that the former No. 5 overall pick reminds him of a young Owens.

“Corey Davis is a baller. He reminds me of a young Terrell Owens, that’s what he reminds me of. He is a baller. So if you don’t watch the Tennessee Titans, tune in and watch the Tennessee Titans and watch Corey Davis.”

That’s one heck of a comparison. I guess at least all the haters have a reason to watch the Titans now, amirite?

Is Corey Davis the next T.O.?
NASHVILLE, TN- SEPTEMBER 10: Wide receiver Corey Davis /

Before you say “uh oh” based on all of T.O.’s antics during his career, let’s not forget how great of a player he was on the field when he wasn’t up to shenanigans.

A six-time Pro Bowler, Owens was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018. Among his many accomplishments, Owens ranks third in NFL history in both receiving yards (15,934) and receiving touchdowns (153). That’s not bad company to be in if you’re Davis.

Like Owens, Davis plays with a physicality that is special, and he’s also a deep threat down the field. He has a similar build to Owens, as both players stand at 6-foot-3; however Owens was slightly thicker than Davis’ 209-pound frame.

In his sophomore campaign, Davis shined for the Titans, finishing with career-highs in yards (891) and touchdowns (four). If not for quarterback Marcus Mariota dealing with a nagging elbow injury that forced Blaine Gabbert behind center far too often, Davis could’ve had an ever bigger year.

Expect Davis to take another step forward in 2019. The third-year pro will have more pass-catchers around him to help alleviate double teams, giving him more than a legitimate shot to top 1,000 yards as the Titans’ undisputed No. 1 receiver.

The sky’s the limit for Davis, but as is the case with most things on the Titans’ offense, that will greatly depend on the health and success of his quarterback.
