Tennessee Titans 53-man roster projection: July 2
By Will Lomas
Quarterback: 2 (total 2)
Sure things: Marcus Mariota, Ryan Tannehill
Numbers favor: None
The Tennessee Titans have a pretty clear situation at running back despite what some national media outlets try to make you believe.
Marcus Mariota is the clear cut starter with no push at all. The only question is, how long will he remain the starter? Just 2019? Will he get the franchise tag or will he get a long term deal?
No one knows the answer to that yet and it would take some pretty serious guts from GM Jon Robinson to have already answered that in his mind. Instead, what you have is a clear QB1/QB2 situation and they have one of the best in the NFL.
In Marcus Mariota you have one of the most clutch quarterbacks of his generation when it comes to closing out close games. While he may not blow teams out, if the game is within seven points you have a chance to win every single time with him.
Ryan Tannehill on the other hand is a volume monster and when given time in the pocket he can put up points in a hurry. The problem is he takes too many sacks and has already had a knee injury that forced him to miss an entire season.
He is the ideal backup, but he is not a starter that you can feel confident unless you have an absolutely dominant offensive line to protect him. After his one year contract is up, there is a chance that the Titans could get back a huge comp pick for him if a team falls in love with his potential.
