Safety: 4 (50 Total)

Sure things: Kevin Byard, Kenny Vaccaro, Amani Hooker (ST), Dane Cruikshank (ST)

Numbers favor: None

Aside from special teams and quarterback, this is the only position that I believe is locked already.

Kevin Byard. Enough said.

Kenny Vaccaro was a revelation last year as an athletic strong safety who was a tone-setter frequently. He was the perfect compliment to Byard because it allowed both of them to play to their strengths.

If you see Vaccaro and Byard creeping up from 15 yards back, to 12 yards, to 10 yards right before the snap, what do you think is happening. For most other safeties you know that one of those guys is not going to be able to drop back in time, he just doesn’t have the hips or foot speed.

However, either Byard and Vaccaro could easily come from that look and blitz, go into man coverage, drop and play deep zone, play underneath in some sort of freelance/read coverage, etc.

Behind them the Titans have another pair of athletic hybrids in Dane Cruikshank and Amani Hooker. I expect to see both of these players on special teams a lot next year, but I have bigger hopes for Hooker down the line.

I have said before that Hooker could be the key to solving the Tennessee Titans potential cap problems, and if he is then he should probably be mentioned as a cornerback and not a safety. However, Hooker fills out the numbers better here and played safety in college so I am going to slot him in.
