Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson has been named as one of Gil Brandt’s breakout corners for the 2019 NFL season.
Gil Brandt, a Hall of Fame talent evaluator, has named Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson as one of his breakout candidates at defensive back for 2019.
Jackson’s physical talents are well-known. He’s a great athlete who can run with the best receivers in the NFL, but consistency remains an issue with him.
This season, Jackson has been working on a different set of skills—the mental aspect of his game—in order to become a more complete corner. As Brandt says on NFL.com, that’s the last piece of his repertoire that can put Jackson over the top.
"Physical skills aren’t an issue with Jackson, an Olympic-level athlete. Rather, the key for him is getting more consistent. Jackson has to put up more performances like his stellar outing against Patriots receiver Josh Gordon in Tennessee’s Week 10 win over New England — and eliminate duds like his effort against the Colts’ T.Y. Hilton in Week 11. If he can become more consistent, Jackson can become one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks."
As Brandt points out, Jackson got off to a slow start this spring because of a foot injury, however his full participation at training camp is expected. It’s there that we’ll see if Jackson has begun his journey on the road to becoming one of the best corners in the NFL, something he clearly has the potential to do.
Jackson has certainly shown flashes in his two seasons with the Titans, ranking as the No. 27 corner in the NFL last season, per Pro Football Focus. And bear in mind, that was after an up-and-down sophomore campaign, showing just how good Jackson can be if he figures things out.
The USC product totaled a career-high two interceptions and 73 total tackles in 2018. Jackson is part of a deep secondary the Titans are sporting that helped lead Tennessee to the sixth-best pass defense in the NFL.
With a great season from Jackson and an improvement from the players around him as well, this unit has the chance to be truly the best in the league. Not to mention, a seemingly improved pass-rush should leave more opportunities for turnovers.
All in all, this secondary, and defense as a whole, should be fun to watch.
