QB1: Marcus Mariota (2016)

Stats: 3,426 passing yards, 26 TDs, 9 INTs, 349 rushing yards, 2 rush TDs.

Total points: 269.9

Surprisingly enough, it was this year over any Steve McNair year that graded out as the best for any Titans quarterback. Granted, this is not a very high score when you consider it the franchise best but that has been the Titans luck.

With heavy attention paid to the Titans ground games over the last two decades, it isn’t surprising that the passers in Nashville haven’t thrived. The volume is very low, the only quarterback in Titans history to throw for over 500 attempts was Matt Hasselbeck and he only manged 18 TDs.

Why is 500 attempts an important milestone? Well, because last year that was right at about league average with 15 quarterbacks throwing for more than 500 attempts and with Ben Roethlisberger throwing for an insane 675 attempts.

Some offenses change and evolve with time, but in Tennessee there has never really been a high volume passing offense run even during the time of MVP Steve McNair and Marcus Mariota at his best.

Hopefully Arthur Smith can come in and help modernize the passing game or at least bring it to the league average. Unfortunately, I don’t know that there is much hope of that given the coaches that he has worked with in the past.
