Could Tennessee Titans and New York Jets make a deal?

Tye Smith

It feels like forever ago, but in 2017 Tye Smith was a pretty big factor in the success of the Tennessee Titans as they made their run to the postseason and then the comeback playoff victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

During that four-game stretch, Tye Smith was targeted 20 times allowing 10 catches despite going against 4 of the top 6 offenses in the NFL.

He didn’t just step on the field and survive, he stepped on the field and thrived. Unfortunately an injury in camp before the 2018 season robbed us of any follow up attempt.

Since then it seems like the Titans have moved on at corner, bringing in Malcolm Butler and drafting safety/corner hybrid Amani Hooker in the 2019 NFL Draft.

I expect that we will see a big dose of Tye Smith in the preseason as the Titans try to get him acclimated to the Dean Pees defense and try to help him get fully back into game shape.

If he passes that test or even before, the Titans should offer him up to the New York Jets in a win-win scenario. With a number crunch coming up before the final cut, the Jets could make sure they get Smith and the Titans could get compensated for that.
