Tennessee Titans should swap picks for a veteran

A.J. Green WR, Cincinnati Bengals

Easily the biggest name on this list and of course the least likely. A month ago, this wouldn’t have even crossed my mind. Then Antonio Brown got traded.

Alright, but Brown was a malcontent who was in the middle of a deal and was aging. With his heir apparent on the roster, maybe the Pittsburgh Steelers were in a unique situation. Maybe this was the outlier and no one else would be traded. Then Odell Beckham got traded.

This was so confusing. The New York Giants got nothing close to market value for the potential Hall of Fame WR, but it doesn’t even stop there. Not only did they get terrible value, but they also owe him nearly $20 million in guaranteed money that they will be paying him to not be on their team.

So you lost a 26 year old superstar in the prime of his career, got back a mid first and a late third, are paying him $20 million no matter what, and your team is a complete mess with little talent at every level.

If a move like that can happen, anything can happen in the NFL.

Green is the ideal candidate for a surprise trade. Do we think that the Cincinnati Bengals are going to make the playoffs in a division where they have to face Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Baltimore? No, in fact they are currently projected to win just six games next year.

On top of that, he is in the last year of his contract at 31 years old. Are the Cincinnati Bengals really going to pay him $15 million (or whatever he will ask) when they wouldn’t even pay Andrew Whitworth to stay?

The final straw is that Green is now playing for a new coach, and while I am sure he loves A.J. Green there is no guarantee that he is going to be so sold on Green from age 32-26 that he is ready to give him that deal.

Sadly, the Bengals are a cheap team that just doesn’t seem to value wins. There is no reason to expect that to change now and there have been some rumblings about this ever since Green didn’t get signed to an extension last summer.
