The big price free agents
This is the tier that scares me. They have all the potential in the world to really help this team, but I just don’t think they are Alex Mack caliber players. Like I said in the intro, history shows us that unless it is a potential Hall of Fame player, spending a lot of money on one of these guys is a risky proposition.
Unfortunately for the Tennessee Titans, the safest bet of the three big name free agents plays center. Mitch Morse would be a great addition to the Titans offensive line, but bringing him in would force Ben Jones to guard.
Honestly, I don’t think it is a bad idea to play Jones at guard especially with an entire offseason to prepare for the switch. Still, any time you make a player move positions you risk growing pains and this offensive line needs to get out of the gate strong this year.
While we are talking about centers, the other big name center is Matt Paradis. Word is that he is going to get to test free agency as the Broncos aren’t willing to make a big commitment to him.
Part of that is due to the fact that they are in a weird cap situation right now essentially paying two starting QBs, but the other big concern is that he broke his leg last year.
If Paradis comes back healthy he has Pro Bowl potential with his athletic testing and size, combined with his experience. Having played under Gary Kubiak he is a great fit for this offense and would be worth the chance in free agency if his leg checks out.
The last big name is the one that gets talked about as much as anyone in conjunction with the Tennessee Titans: Rodger Saffold.
Even during the stretches when the Rams have been terrible dating back to their time in St. Louis, Saffold was a talented starter who fit in every system. However, like Paradis his experience in this system could be key to getting him to Tennessee.
At this point, you could almost view Saffold as an assistant OL coach given his time with Sean McVay and if the Titans are thinking about going young at the other center position that is a hidden benefit that they may want to consider.
