Baltimore Ravens: Terrell Suggs, EDGE

In case you don’t know, Suggs is 2nd leader in sacks among active NFL players with 125.5. The man in front of him is Julius Peppers and the man behind him is Cameron Wake who has just 92.

Suggs is as proven and as productive as you could ever want as a potential trade target and he makes so much sense for the Titans.

Why would he be available?

In fact, he makes so much sense that I wrote an entire article about it before the draft. The article shows how Dean Pees helped Suggs go from great, to Hall of Famer and outlines the familiarity that he would instantly bring to the team.

Here was the justification I used in that article:

"The Ravens are in a cap nightmare right now and next year they have CJ Mosley hitting free agency as well as several holes they need to fill. They need to be looking at any possible avenue to free up cap space. Suggs is a free agent next year and trading him would allow the Ravens to make a move before during the season so that they don’t have to resort to the tag or compete with other teams in free agents. It isn’t like they are unprepared for Suggs to leave, in each of the last three seasons they have selected at least one pass rusher (2017: Tim Williams, Tyus Bowser, 2016: Kamalei Correa, 2015: Zadarius Smith) so they have plenty of depth at the position. So now they get to move an older vet and free up some cap space/playing time, while also adding a resource. Win-win."

What would he bring to the Titans?

The Titans have four players who could lead them in sacks in 2018: Brian Orakpo, Derrick Morgan, Jurrell Casey, and Harold Landry. I think Suggs would make that a five man race.

We have seen over the past few years that teams with outstanding defenses can roll defensive linemen and EDGE rushers on the field frequently. Philadelphia last year, Denver for the past three or four years, Seattle during that time, even the Patriots have shined in situational football by rushing different players on the field.

His familiarity with the scheme would make him an instant impact, helping the other Titans players quickly identify what they need to pre-snap and even helping rookie linebacker Rashaan Evans in his first year as a starter.

There are questions about how nice of a guy he is, but with Dean Pees and Mike Vrabel at the helm along with a very solid locker room I think you could figure out pretty quickly whether or not he was a guy that could help you win and/or who was worth the move.
