Kansas City Chiefs: Jehu Chesson WR

Not ever player on these lists is going to be a super star or even someone who should get immediate playing time. Sometime, the best option is to take a developmental player and trust your coaches to be better than the other team’s coaches.

In this situation, I would love to see the Titans take a chance on Chesson for a conditional 7th round pick.

Why would he be available?

The Chiefs have Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley returning and they went out and brought in Sammy Watkins too this offseason. So at best Chesson would be fighting for the 4th WR spot with DeMarcus Robinson (who started over him last year), De’Anthony Thomas and others.

Let’s say that he shakes out as the WR5 on that roster. Based on last year’s snap count, the WR5 played 198 snaps. That isn’t nothing, but it also isn’t a crucial part of the offense.

What would he bring to the Titans?

Much like David King last year, I think the Chiefs have someone that could be used in a specific role to the Titans benefit. King was the younger version of Karl Klug and I think that Chesson would be the redzone target that the Titans wanted Eric Decker to be last year.

At 6’3, Chesson had a 39.5 inch vertical jump and has the build of a guy that could box out defenders. That is what he could do for the Titans short term.

Long term, he is a guy that ran mid-4.4s at the combine despite his size and at his peak in college he averaged over 15 YPC and had 9 TDs with Michigan who has been…just brutal to watch in the passing game.

While he is developing, you can use him on special teams. He has experience as a gunner and would be worth activating on gamedays so you would have to make a big effort to actually force feed him a few reps on offense each week.
