Round 3, Pick 89: Shaquem Griffin, DEF/ST, UCF

Shaquem Griffin has become this year’s darling of the NFL Draft evaluation process. As most know, he only has one hand. That didn’t stop him from tearing it up at UCF, winning the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year award. I basically listed him positionless due to his size, but he is certainly somebody who can come in and elevate the play of a team’s defense and special teams.

Robinson heavily values special teams as much as any other phase of the game. Griffin can come in and instantly be a kick coverage star, while having specific roles on defense. Griffin is listed as a linebacker, but I believe he’s a player you have to pick and chose how you unleash him. Some plays he might line up on the edge, and others he may line up off the ball in coverage. His versatility allows him to play all over the field, but he’s not a guy you just put in the middle of the defense. His ability to do it all is something that Robinson may be hard-pressed to pass on.
