With free agency on the horizon, we take a look at five free agents that I believe would be great fits for the Tennessee Titans.

This off-season is easily the most pivotal one GM Jon Robinson has been faced with since taking over the role for the team in 2016. While the team is a few key acquisitions away from being a real contender in the AFC, Robinson must also keep in mind the cap situation for the Titans down the line.

This isn’t a problem we’ve seen the Titans have in a while. Typically, the team would just throw money at players, hoping they’d fix their problems (Andy LeVitre, Kameron Wimbley, and Bernard Pollard) and help make a run for the upcoming season. Now, with the young core of talent Robinson has been able to establish, the team is not only in position to make a run now, but for the next chunk of years as well.

With the team’s recent draft success comes a hefty price. Over the last few years, the team has hit home runs in the draft such as Marcus Mariota, Taylor Lewan, and All-Pro players Jack Conklin and Kevin Byard. These are key guys who need to be retained in order for the team to build a legitimate, long-term contender. Conserving a considerable amount of cap space while adding key contributors is a balancing act Robinson will have to master.

As it stands, the Titans have about $49 million of cap space available (Spotrac.com). That is currently good for ninth-best in the NFL. Although it’s among the better situations throughout the league, the team simply can’t afford to go out and throw bags of money at multiple big name free agents. I tried to keep the team’s short-term and long-term interests in mind while compiling this list.
