Jarvis Landry, WR, Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins were not set to allow Pro Bowl pass catcher Jarvis Landry to just walk out the door, slapping him with the franchise tag with hopes of being able to get compensation for him in a trade. Ian Rapaport of NFL Network actually reported that the Tennessee Titans are on a list of teams looking to acquire Landry’s services.

While I believe Landry would fit in extremely well in this offense, I had trouble deciding if he was worth a mega deal in free agency. I definitely don’t believe he’s worth potential future assets along with that mega contract he’ll be due soon, the given circumstances. It’s just hard to imagine Robinson throwing away so much for somebody who just averaged over eight yards a catch in 2017.

With that said, there could be positives in trading for the accomplished LSU product. If Robinson were to pull the trigger, the Titans would be the only team that would be negotiating with him for that long term deal. Without having other teams competing for Landry’s services, the team may actually get him on a cheaper deal than if he were to hit the open market, but that doesn’t mean he won’t break the bank.

I like the vision of Landry taking advantage of Mariota’s lightning quick release underneath with players like Corey Davis, Delanie Walker, and Rishard Matthews attacking down the field. I’m just not a fan of what the team might have to give up in order to make it happen.

Potential Compensation for Miami: Second round pick and conditional late round pick(s).
