Tennessee Titans: Affordable Free Agent Options at Positions of Need
By Max Dambach
Wide Receiver
Top Free Agent: Jarvis Landry, Miami Dolphins
Affordable Option: Paul Richardson, Seattle Seahawks
The Titans have a relatively well-rounded receiving corps, but could use another piece to replace pending free agent Eric Decker. The team already has a ton of young talent in Corey Davis, Tajae Sharpe, and Taywan Taylor, along with veteran Rishard Matthews. They have the quick slot receiver in Taylor, the big “X” receiver along the sideline in Davis, and two sure-handed possession receivers in Sharpe and Matthews, but the team is still lacking a premier deep threat who can burn a defense deep and force safeties to respect his speed, which would create opportunities for the entire offense.
Although Paul Richardson has never put up huge numbers for Seattle, he clearly has the downfield speed that Tennessee needs and displays the ability to make spectacular game-changing catches, like in the 2016 playoffs. Furthermore, Richardson deserves credit for putting up 703 yards and six touchdowns in a Seattle offense with very poor offensive line play and no running game. It’s difficult to thrive as a deep threat in an offense when your quarterback is being chased almost immediately after the ball is snapped. Richardson presents an intriguing blend of established speed and talent with the possibility of being even better after a simple change of scenery. Richardson, or a receiver like Richardson, could be the final missing piece of the Tennessee receiving corps.
