Tennessee Titans: Affordable Free Agent Options at Positions of Need
By Max Dambach
Although many Tennessee Titans fans are hoping for a big ticket free agent, with some big extensions ahead, GM Jon Robinson could look for some bargains in free agency.
About a month out from the start of the 2017 free agency period, speculation about big name free agents like Kirk Cousins and Le’Veon Bell is reaching a fever pitch. Writers here at Titan Sized have done their fair share of speculation about who the Tennessee Titans could make a run at to push this roster over the edge and compete for a Super Bowl. Names like Malcolm Butler, Jarvis Landry, Ziggy Ansah, and Andrew Norwell are at the top of most Titans fans’ wish lists.
While it would be great to see the Titans fill a need with one of these top tier free agents, Jon Robinson may not want to spend big in free agency this year despite having just under $50,000,000 in cap space; especially with big contracts coming for Taylor Lewan and Marcus Mariota within the next year and several other young building blocks who will need to be paid over the next three years.
Players like Butler and Landry will demand enormous cap hits for several years, which could lead Robinson to look for talent in the next tier of free agents, where the Titans have found success previously with players like Brian Orakpo, Logan Ryan, and Rishard Matthews. Let’s take a look at a few of the cheaper free agents with upside who could help fill out a roster that is already one of the league’s most solid from top to bottom if Robinson takes this more conservative approach to free agency.
