Notable Omissions

Chip Kelly – Head Coach – UCLA

Chip Kelly would be the perfect man for the job, as he has a history with Marcus Mariota and is looking to prove he can coach in the NFL. The problem is he just signed on to be the head coach at UCLA. It would be basically impossible for Kelly to get out of his contract before even coaching one season with the team. Keep in mind, though, that the last time Mariota had a lot of success and the last time Kelly had a lot of success was when they were together.

Kevin Sumlin – Head Coach – Arizona

Much like Kelly, Sumlin was just hired to coach at Arizona. He had a rough few final years at Texas A&M, but he did get Johnny Manziel to succeed. Sumlin also runs the spread offense, which would be a great fit for Mariota. Again, he would have trouble getting out of his new contract because he just signed it.

Nick Saban – Head Coach – Alabama

Nick Saban would be amazing! The problem is there is a huge buyout in his contract that would make it really tough for the Titans to sign him. Also, there are reports that if he were to come back to the NFL it would be with the New York Giants. Stranger things have happened, though.

Dabo Swinney – Head Coach – Clemson

He is not going anywhere. Swinney has a lot more to accomplish in college football and is on a contract that keeps him at Clemson until 2024. Although he is a great coach and would be fun to have in the NFL, it is just unlikely to happen.
