As the Tennessee Titans search for a new head coach, they could branch out from the NFL and look at high-profile college coaches.

The Tennessee Titans have a head coaching vacancy and they are looking to interview some quality candidates for the job. GM Jon Robinson should look outside of the NFL for his next head coach and these candidates would be excellent options.

Urban Meyer – Head Coach – Ohio State

It is amazing that someone that has had so much success in college football has never tried his craft in the NFL. Urban Meyer is a three-time national champion and should be chomping at the bit to try to get an NFL job and a Super Bowl. The Tennessee Titans should be considered one of the top coaching positions available in the NFL. They have a group of young players that have already made the playoffs. With the right coach, Tennessee can be a powerhouse for years to come. Meyer is that guy. He runs the perfect offense for Marcus Mariota to thrive in. The spread offense is what Mariota ran before joining the NFL and is what is going to get him a Super Bowl. With Meyer running the show, Mariota will finally have the right scheme to fit his skill set.

Meyer has been running the spread offense with precision. Tim Tebow, Alex Smith, Chris Leak, J.T. Barrett, Cardale Jones, and Braxton Miller all thrived under Meyer. Mariota can be the next one to fit. To go along with the offense, Meyer’s defense is always a top college football defense as well. Last season, the Buckeyes were ranked ninth in college football in total defense. Put these together and the Titans might have a winner in Meyer.

The problem is Meyer will not come cheap. For him to leave his post at Ohio State, it will take a big contract (maybe not a Jon Gruden contract, but a big one). Meyer is currently under contract until 2020 (per USA Today). In that contract, he has a $2 million buyout if he leaves for another job. The Titans would most likely have to pick that up.
