Underachiever: Jonathan Cyprien

7 Total Tackles

Cyprien was brought in this past offseason to shore up the hole at the safety position next to Kevin Byard. He was last year’s top run defending safety in the league (according to Pro Football Focus) and was known for plugging running backs in the backfield or at the line of scrimmage. On a crucial 4th-and-1 play in the first half, the Raiders handed the ball to their short yardage force, Marshawn Lynch. The Titans called the perfect play to stuff that and even had Cyprien, the league’s supposed best run stopping safety, coming free at Lynch in the backfield. Due to Cyp’s missed tackle, Lynch was able to pick up the first down. I just expected more from Cyprien in this game and now he is injured and not available for the next couple of weeks.
