When other teams need cap room, smart teams like the Tennessee Titans have an option to make their team better.

It is that time of year where the final interesting free agents start finding homes. The Tennessee Titans should have one eye on the transaction list going forward.

This morning, LeGarrette Blount signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and last night the Cleveland Browns signed Jason McCourty.

Speaking of McCourty, it is no secret that the Tennessee Titans are going to rely on youth and an influx of new players at cornerback. I would imagine that cornerback more than any other position right now is in need of another veteran presence or more young talent.

Few sites know cap situations like Spotrac, so I looked at their list to see which big name cornerbacks were likely to hit the market.

After looking hard at that list, here are three cornerbacks that the Tennessee Titans should sign if given the chance.

Kyle Fuller CB, Chicago Bears

The Bears are still very much in a rebuilding phase and they aren’t about to commit huge resources to a guy whose 5th year option they just declined.

According to the link above from Spotrac, both parties may be ready for a change:

“There was speculation that an injured Fuller simply “did not want” to return to the Bears this season, putting his future in question. He’ll be a trade candidate at best.”

Kyle Fuller is one of the better young cornerbacks in the NFL (just turned 25) and he graded well on the metrics that Robinson looks for in a college cornerback including interception total, 3-cone and career starts.

DRC is set to make an impressive $8.5 million this year despite being 31. He still has some left in the tank that the Tennessee Titans should pursue if given the chance.

For what it is worth, he was PFF’s 5th highest rated cornerback coming off of last season’s performance.

With (2016 1st round pick) Eli Apple and Janoris Jenkins ($12+ million annually) set to start, DRC is the odd man out.

    Vontae Davis CB, Indianapolis Colts

It is hard for me to believe that the Colts would cut Davis after being their best defensive player for the better part of a decade. However, here is what they said (which does make sense):

“Davis struggled much of the year along with the Colts defense as a whole. His $10.25M cap figure makes bringing him back almost impossible.”

That is a huge cap hit for a team that is paying a QB/LT/WR a lot of money already. If they think he is limited compared to what he was, Chris Ballard may move on from the past regime’s trade.

For the Tennessee Titans, he could be the 3rd cornerback who comes in to move Logan Ryan into the slot, like how Eric Rowe does for the New England Patriots.

Before this past season, Davis had one of the best three year stretches for a CB in the NFL according to PFF.
