Tennessee Titans dueling 2017 NFL Mock Draft: Safety or Risk
By Will Lomas
Conservative mock draft 1st round, pick 18: Gareon Conley CB, Ohio State
It is weird saying that the Tennessee Titans landing the third best defensive back at Ohio State in the top-20 is a steal, but Conley is just that solid.
If you don’t know a lot about Conley, I think he shares a lot of similar traits to Washington CB Sidney Jones who many said was a top-2 CB in this draft before he got injured.
He is a technician who can play anywhere on the field. The only issue is that he may not have the upside of Marshon Lattimore or Kevin King who are both freak athletes.
I think on the Tennessee Titans roster, he probably comes in day one and locks up one of the cornerback spots. He should enter as one of the best 30 CBs in the NFL easily, which would by default make him an above average starter.
Can he make that jump to a top-10 CB? I don’t know, and I am not as confident as I am in Marshon Lattimore that he could ever reach that peak. However, he is a solid player who would be a great compliment to Logan Ryan as a more finesse cornerback.
