Another name has surfaced on the Tennessee Titans potential free agency watch list.

We can all see that there isn’t any urgency with the Tennessee Titans at this point in the free agency period (I say that as I check my phone for updates).

So, when a name starts circulating that the Titans may be interested in, my ears perk up. While there may not be anything imminent, you never know what will happen with Jon Robinson and this front office.

More from Titans Free Agency

Dan Cotton cited a report on 247 Sports that 5 teams have shown interest in free agent cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman.

For those that don’t know, the run down on NRC is that he is one of the better slot cornerbacks in the NFL. He was cut by the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason for…reasons?

He has quietly gone under the radar because he is only 5’8, which limits him to one role in the NFL: slot cornerback.

Here is why this news is fascinating though, Robey-Coleman isn’t a special teams stud and he doesn’t fill another role so if the Tennessee Titans sign him, it will be because they believe he can be their full-time (depending on the money) slot cornerback.

  • This means that they think that Logan Ryan can be a full time boundary cornerback, which is something that the Patriots didn’t do a lot of late in the year.

Now, Ryan’s tape shows that he can be a very good CB2, and if you scheme him with safety help he can cover with the best of them. So, if the Titans sign NRC it would be an even bigger vote of confidence in Logan Ryan than I had expected.

If he is brought in and LeShaun Sims and Jason McCourty (who both had some nice flashes last year, though some people forget it) are battling out for the other boundary CB job, maybe CB drops down my needs board slightly.

I still think the Tennessee Titans should take a boundary cornerback, but this group of defensive backs would have a lot of potential.
