Franchise quarterback
That is right, a NFL coaching candidate will have a chance to coach a real life franchise quarterback. Marcus Mariota is the real deal and he will likely finish the season with 20+ passing touchdowns and is on pace to have at least a 2:1 TD to INT ratio.
He is doing that behind a terrible offensive line, with no receivers. Imagine what a smart offensive mind like Hue Jackson could do. Someone who could develop offensive linemen and who could scheme up openings for a hyper accurate quarterback who can read defenses at a high level already.
This is by far the best situation in the league at quarterback, let’s look at the other teams.
1. Tennessee Titans

2. Cleveland Browns
-The Browns right now have Johnny Manziel and Josh McCown in a two man battle that neither one of them will really take a hold of. This is a huge question mark that I’m not sure any coach wants to be saddled with.
3. New Orleans Saints (maybe)
-Drew Brees is great, but just how much longer does he have? Does the next head coach be the one that has to deal with bridging that gap when the team isn’t bad enough to really get you a QB in this draft?
4. Miami Dolphins
-The Dolphins are alright at quarterback for a long time with Tannehill who is pretty much maxed out at this point. He is dynamic, but his supporting cast is doing a lot to make him serviceable and the current OC Bill Lazor is doing a great job to get what he can.
5. Detroit Lions
-Matt Stafford isn’t the answer. He can sling it, and he is sort of like Brett Favre in that if he has an elite unit around him, he can win you a championship. However, I don’t see a Reggie White on the other side of the ball like Favre had in his Super Bowl run and with Calvin Johnson in decline (which I hate to type) that passing game will suffer.
