Tennessee Titans: What I Want to See First Week of Training Camp
By Sean Maczko
Training camp for the Tennessee Titans begins on July 25, 2014 at Saint Thomas Sports Park and there are few things that I really want to see when it begins. The recent weeks of no active football pushed me to start thinking about training camp. There has virtually been no news or updates in the NFL world in general besides Jimmy Graham being dissatisfied that he is a “tight end” and that Andre Johnson wants to be anywhere but Houston. (Note to Andre: I fully support you moving to a different in a different division.)
For starters, I would like to see our players return in shape and whoop that 300 yard dash that Coach Ken Whisenhunt has planned upon returning. It is extremely important that the players return ready to get business. I can’t imagine running a 300 yard dash, but there were players like Chance Warmack, Taylor Lewan, and Michael Oher that were some big concerns for the test. Obviously, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist considering they are three hundred-plus pound players.
Secondly, I want to see Jake Locker standing in the pocket making some nice throws. I know he doesn’t want to lead on to ANYONE that he isn’t approaching 100% health, but I do not want to see him scrambling around. Locker has amazing athleticism but for the Titans to find success this year he must stay healthy. I can see Locker using his legs if the opportunity presents itself but he needs to get out of bounds and slide. He has a 21 year old running back with fresh legs in Bishop Sankey that can run and take hits – not him.
Last but not least, I want to see some glimpses of this hybrid 3-4 defense that Ray Horton is bringing to the team. I can’t wait to see our new defense start to work the kinks out. I don’t expect miracles, we got one of those in 2000, but I do want to see our team playing fast and physical.
Okay, I lied… here is the last thing I would like to see. I want to see Justin Hunter with some consistent hands. Yes we have seen flashes of potential, but we need to see a big leap in consistency. I want the huge, leaping catches over defenders but I also want to see open field catches and yards after the catch.
What would you like to see in training camp?
