Is Mike Munchak really the future of the Tennessee Titans? This is the question that I’ve been asking myself for the better half of this season. It’s one that I haven’t been able to get a handle on, so here’s me, emptying my thoughts into an article. Bear with me.

  • Mike Munchak has spent his entire career in Tennessee. From being drafted to becoming a coach, Munchak has only ever known Tennessee. I can’t imagine the team letting him go. He’s been responsible for some of the best, smallest name offensive lines to have played in the league. This season has been a testament to that.
  • I can’t stand Munchak’s lack of fire. He doesn’t believe yelling at players will accomplish anything, but I disagree. I hate how stale he is and the general blandness he seems to carry. I want fire. Good coaches with fire, you ask? Mike Tomlin, Jim Harbaugh, John Harbaugh, and Pete Carroll are a few that come to mind. Even just a little enthusiasm, besides when they score the rare touchdown, would be appreciated. Without a true leader for the team, say as Ray Lewis has been to the Ravens, this team will struggle to find identity, especially under duress.
  • If he’s let go, will Bud Adams be willing to spend the big bucks to bring in someone worth the switch? If he decides Munchak isn’t the answer for the Titans and he wants a different head coach, I want to see that wallet open up. I want to see this team pursuing the likes of coaches such as Oregon’s Chip Kelly or Alabama’s Nick Saban. Otherwise, I’m not that interesting in changing or optimistic.
  • Would a new OC or an off-season for Dowell Loggains be enough for this offense to turn things around? I see the talent. I believe in the offense. I’m confused as to why they’ve had such struggles this year, though they have had all these injuries to the offensive line. It’s tempting to want to bring in… say Norv Turner. I just want this offense to take off. This has been a rough year for what should have been a great offense.

That’s just some of what has been going through my mind as we approach what looks to be another turbulent off-season for the Titans. I don’t know the answer to the question, but this is what goes through my head when I think about it.

What do you think? Will/should Munchak be the Titans head coach in 2013?
