Titan Sized Interviews: 1-on-1 With Tommie Campbell

facebooktwitterreddit

We got the privilege of talking with Tennessee Titans CB Tommie Campbell the other day. Big thanks to him for making time for us. Here’s the conversation we had:

Q) Tommie you have such an interesting story, what do you feel was the main reason for your problems early in your college?

Tommie: I didn’t take care of my off-the-field duty, such as class, or study hall;  but far as football there was no problem with that.

Q) What moment ,during your time out of football sticks out to you as a pivotal moment in your life?

Tommie: Sitting at home, watching all my friends play on T.V. that were at the University of Pittsburgh.  Also seeing one of my teammates at the airport when I was working.

Q) When you were making your comeback from being out of football what moment sticks out to you?

Tommie: The first day I came back to start training and I vomited everywhere because I was out of shape so badly. The very first time I ran a 40 when I came back, I ran an 4.76.  I thought my speed was gone, but the very next week I ran a 4.38, and i just kept getting faster and faster after that.  I couldn’t even bench 225 one time lol, but I put the work in and everything just kept going up.

Q) Describe the day you were drafted by the Tennessee Titans?

Tommie: Besides my kids being born, the day I got drafted was the best day of my life. I cried for like the whole day.  I went 251, but I felt like I went round one, pick one that day. As the day went on, I realized I wasn’t finished reaching my dream; so I went out bout two in the morning and I started running the hill because I knew I wasn’t finished doing what I had started when I decided to come back and play again.

Q) Favorite part about being a NFL player?

Tommie: The game itself.  I’m from Aliquippa, so I love football, I love winning, and I love competition. So every day is a game to me;  your getting better or worse. The best part about being a NFL player is football. I’m doing one of the things I love most in life and getting paid to do it.

Q) Where do yo see yourself this season fitting into the Titans defense (personal goals)?

Tommie: My goals this season is to be the best Tommie Campbell I can be. Whether I’m a starter, nickleback, or on special teams, I just want to do anything and everything I can possibly do to help our team win.

Q) Who wins in a race you, or CJ?

Tommie: Quote me on this:  I’ll win. But on an serious note, to even be mentioned as being as fast as C.J. is an honor. Until the day I start making plays like him, and rush for 2,000 yards, and go to the Pro Bowl, I’ll always say he is faster. Unless we ever raced. But until that day, C.J. is the fastest guy in NFL to me.

Q) Most memorable moment in Rookie season?

Tommie: 37 Special, whenever I jump in the stands.

Q) Predictions for the Titans, this upcoming season?

Tommie: I’m not going to say anything about how many losses we will have. If you think your going to lose, than you will lose; so I would just say: I believe we will do better.
