Fantasy teams: Week 4
By Nick Bishop
Ok, so I know it’s already Week 4 of the NFL season, but we are now going to start posting our fantasy lineups each Saturday for the rest of the season. This is one of two leagues that I’m in, but this is the Nashville friends league, so we’ll keep it local. As it currently stands, I (Nick) am 2-1, as is Kellen. Below are our starts for the week and a quick analysis of our teams:
Nick’s Team
QB: Drew Brees-Saints vs. 49ers
WR1: Roddy White-Falcons @ Panthers
WR2: DeSean Jackson-Eagles @ Bears
RB1: Johnathan Stewart-Panthers vs. Falcons
RB2: Chris Perry-Bengals vs. Cleveland
Flex: Correll Buckhalter-Eagles @ Bears
TE: Robert Royal-Bills @ Rams
K: Josh Scobee-Jaguars vs. Texans
Defense: Baltimore Ravens vs. Steelers
I know, pretty bad right? I’ve got Reggie Wayne and Joseph Addai on the bench, I just dropped Shockey who was a complete dud before getting hurt and I’m sitting Santonio Holmes because he is going up against the Ravens who is A) my defense, and B) is the top unit against the pass so far in this early season. And did you see what the Eagles did to Roethlisberger last weekend? Jeez… The team I’m playing was constructed by this friend/dummy who has made it his goal to try and own as many Cowboys as possible. Basically, he’s got Frank Gore, Carson Palmer, T.O., Felix Jones and a bunch of Cowboys. Even though I’m not crazy about this group early on in the fantasy football season (which is so much different that the real football season), but this week I’ve got some enticing matchups that they may be able to exploit (Brees at home against S.F., Perry and Stewart against bad rushing D’s, Buckhalter going for an injured Brian Westbrook). I’m looking to go 3-1.
Kellen’s Team
QB: Kurt Warner-Cardinals @ Jets
WR1: Donald Driver-Packers @ Bucs
WR2: Dwayne Bowe-Chiefs vs. Broncos
RB1: Marshawn Lynch-Bills @ Rams
RB2: Larry Johnson-Chiefs vs. Broncos
Flex: Ike Hilliard-Bucs vs. Packers
TE: Vernon Davis-49ers @ Saints
K: Josh Brown-Rams vs. Bills
Defense: Philly @ Bears
I’m in third place, a few points away, two weeks ago, from being 3-0. Warner was a FA pickup before the first week of the season, and I’ve started him every week so far (as opposed to Eli Manning or Matt Schaub). When Warner threw for 3 TD’s to Boldin two weeks ago, I was playing against my friend with Boldin, which basically made it a wash in the week I lost by less then 4. I like Warner this week, and I’m going against Fitzgerald, so I’m a bigger Boldin fan right now than when I owned him last season. Marshawn Lynch has been getting TDs, even when he hasn’t gotten a huge amount of yards- and this is about as favorable a matchup as he’ll see all year. LJ finally did something last week, which I hope wasn’t a fluke, but I wouldn’t be amazed if it wasn’t indicative of the rest of his fantasy season. Neither Driver or Bowe are elite fantasy receivers (Plaxico Burress has given himself an extra bye week after his suspension this weekend), but they have played well so far this year, and have good matchups. Ike Hilliard was a quick matchup acquisition for my flex spot with byes taking out Burress and Anthony Gonzalez, and an eye injury putting Willis McGahee’s status in question. I’m hoping that Vernon Davis finally does something this week, and that Philly keeps up their ball hawking ways against the Bears. I’m playing the second place team this weekend, and want nothing less than total domination.
