Are the Tennessee Titans Going to Address Center?

facebooktwitterreddit

Another day, another center come and gone. The latest center the Tennessee Titans have decided not to sign is Dan Koppen, who has re-signed with the New England Patriots. The Titans have now had this happen four times with the centers Scott Wells, Chris Myers, Jeff Saturday, and now Dan Koppen.

It’s obvious that the Titans are not happy with the play they’ve been receiving from Amano at center and that they’re looking to upgrade at the position but I’m a little baffled at why they’ve let three centers slip by them.

The Titans brought in center Jeff Faine for a look today. I don’t expect anything to come of that. As Jim Wyatt said earlier today on Twitter, they may just wait to see how the draft plays out before making a move.

My question is: Are the Titans going to make a move for a new center in the draft?

The Titans’ run game was an absolute disgrace this last season and I put most of that blame directly on the o-line, though CJ does have some blame to bear. He still couldn’t help the fact that every run play they called he was being hit behind the line of scrimmage.

There needs to be a change at center.

There are a few options in the draft that the Titans could choose to address the center position. I’ll just rattle off a few of their names in order of which they might be drafted: Peter Konz, Ben Jones, Michael Brewster, Phillip Blake, and David Molk, almost all of whom would be an upgrade at the position.

Personally, I’ll be pretty surprised if they don’t address it in the draft after letting so many centers slip by them in free agency. The lack of a run game is a very serious matter that the Titans can’t overlook. Sure the Titans have an amazing receiver in Kenny Britt but with his injury history you can’t rely purely on him. If you improve the run game you’re going to take the pressure off the passing game and make sure that Britt isn’t being overused, which in turn, may keep him much healthier and the Titans that much deadlier.

I’m not saying the Titans have to draft a center, but if they don’t and the run game falters again, they’re gonna be facing some pretty serious heat for not doing anything more than adding an aged veteran to the line.
