Tennessee Titans Sign DE/OLB Kamerion Wimbley

This morning it was announced that the Tennessee Titans have signed DE/OLB Kamerion Wimbley to a 5-year, $35 million dollar contract. Finally the DE position has been addressed and though the player is neither Mario Williams or John Abraham, he is most certainly a pass rusher.

Most recently he has been playing OLB in a 3-4 defense, though he did line up as a DE occasionally. In college he played as a DE. Joining the Titans at 6-4, 255 lbs, I expect they’ll be wanting him to put on some weight to better suit his new position. I’d expect him to come into the 2012 season weighing somewhere between 265-270 lbs.

The most interesting thing about the signing was the numbers. Getting Wimbley in a 5-year deal for $35 million is a pretty good deal. He’s been a productive player thus far in his career and only missed one game, due to flu. The number of years they gave him are what really struck me. They must certainly see him being useful in the defensive scheme and expect him to produce well in it. I know I have high hopes for him. He’s a player entering the prime of his career.

With Wimbley being signed the Titans now have two DE’s under contract. I’d expect at least two more to be added between now and the draft. His signing hasn’t erased the possibility of drafting a DE first round, though is has made it possible to look at other options with that pick now.

Here’s a little highlight video to get you excited: Kamerion Wimbley is a beast
