Time for Titans to tell CJ2K to take a seat

It takes time. No player can come in a hit the ground running (literally). Not with the hand the Titans were dealt this year with CJ.

First he acts like a child and demands more money, refusing to come to camp. Don’t worry about the fact that this teams future is almost entirely dependant on him and the success he has on the field (especially after the loss of Kenny Britt for the season).

A week after signing his grossly overpaying (given current production and estimated value going forward) new contract CJ2K proclaimed he already knew the entire playbook of an offense that is completely different than the one he had run for the past three seasons. No player does that. Given the lockout and no offseason with the new coaching staff I find it very difficult to believe that CJ grasped the entire playbook in just a weeks time. Quarterbacks are widely regarded as the smartest guys on the team and new Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck is just now starting to understand how the offense flows together and we are Five weeks into the season. Hasselbeck also didn’t miss training camp either, so he has had close to nine weeks to learn the offense.

CJ has been known to let his mouth write checks his body couldn’t cash. Last season he boasted that he would shatter Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record by running for an astounding 2,500 yards. Opposing defenses were obviously offended and paid very special attention to the leagues newest member of the 2000 yard club. Johnson was held to 1300 yards, well over 1000 short of the mark he set for himself. II think we are still seeing the effects of CJ’s holdout combined with a lockout hangover. It is the perfect storm for a player to underwhelm a fanbase. Watching games there have been holes to run through and CJ is flat out missing them. He doesn’t know the offense and it may be time to let the younger guys who paid their dues during camp help this team in the short term while the franchise gets things figured out.

The next couple of games are critical to the Titans season and will prove the difference in this being a playoff team or just another middle of the pack bunch of chumps. The Titans can ill afford to let their season fall to the wayside because they were too stubborn to sit a guy because of his talent that is obviously hurting the team.
