How Much Do Titans Pay Chris Johnson?

facebooktwitterreddit

Obviously, if they want to keep Johnson on the team, they need to pay up. With Mike Reinfeldt recently stating that Johnson will be the highest paid at his position, it’s got me wondering how much that will be.

Maurice Jones-Drew

MJD is the rival RB, a guy considered to be top-8 at the least at his position. He is a threat in the return game, the receiving game, as a blocker and most of all–a runner.

"4/15/2009: Signed a five-year, $30.95 million contract. The deal contains $17.5 million guaranteed, including a $9 million signing bonus and Jones-Drew’s base salaries in years one and two. Another $1.8 million is available through incentives. 2011: $4.05 million, 2012: $4.45 million, 2013: $4.95 million, 2014: Free Agent"

Key Stat: $17.5 guaranteed

Darren McFadden

McFadden did just come on in 2010 but he is widely known to have a large contract, let’s check it out.

"6/5/2008: Signed a six-year, $60 million contract. The deal contains $26 million guaranteed, including a $6.4 million “log” bonus and a second-year roster bonus of $5 million. 2011: $7.055 million, 2012: $5.65 million, 2013: $5,856,250, 2014: Free Agent"

Key Stat: $26 million guaranteed

Steven Jackson (my favorite all around)

"8/21/2008: Signed a six-year, $44.805 million contract. The deal contains $20.5 million guaranteed, including an $11.395 million signing bonus. Another $4.495 million is available through incentives. He must average 1,200 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving over the first four years to void the final two seasons on his contract. 2011: $7.2 million, 2012-2013: $7 million (Voidable Years), 2014: Free Agent"

Key Stat: $20.5 million guaranteed

Adrian Peterson (MN not the former Bears RB)

The Vikings RB is obviously one of the best players in the league, not just his position, and coming off his rookie deal.

"WIkipedia informs us that it was $17 million guaranteed, Rotoworld just mentions that he is in his last year and will make over $10 million."

Key Stat: What we hope was correctly mentioned as $17 million guaranteed

CJ Spiller (Bills high pick from 2010 draft)

Keep in mind, this is his rookie deal from being a top-10 pick.

"8/6/2010: Signed a five-year, $25 million contract. The deal includes $20.8 million guaranteed. Another $12.5 million is available through incentives, roughly $12 million of which are available in the final year. 2011: $405,000, 2012: $852,917, 2013: $1,300,834, 2014: $1,748,750, 2015: Free Agent"

Key Stat: $20.8 million guaranteed

After looking at these, and obviously more examples can be found, it’s obvious that Johnson will receive more than $26 million in guaranteed money. He earned it, but WOW at the salary cap hit. I bet safety Chris Hope gets released the moment they sign Johnson to this new deal, if it in reality does come.

All contracts from Rotoworld.
