Tennessee Titans: Ben Jones a surprise addition to injury report on Sunday

The Tennessee Titans have added to new players to the injury report on Sunday morning, one of which is center Ben Jones.

The Tennessee Titans have two new players listed on the injury report ahead of the Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts: center Ben Jones and linebacker David Long.

Erik Bachrach of The Tennessean is reporting that the Titans have added both Jones and Long to the injury report on Sunday morning.

Jones is dealing with an illness, but doesn’t have a designation. Meanwhile, Long, who was inactive in Week 1, is questionable with a groin injury.

Neither player was listed on the team’s injury report from Friday. We’ll find out if either player suits up on Sunday at around 10:30 a.m. CDT when inactives are released.

The bigger name here is Jones, the team’s starting center. It would take a lot for him not to play, as Jones has never missed a start in his three full seasons with the Titans and has never missed a single game during his seven-year career.

If he can’t go, the Titans would have to find a replacement, which would likely come in the form of Hroniss Grasu.

Grasu wasn’t originally part of the team’s 53-man roster, but was added this week after the Titans signed him and waived running back Dalyn Dawkins. Grasu was a former teammate of quarterback Marcus Mariota’s when the pair played at Oregon, so there is some familiarity there.

Of course, the move to bring Grasu in could have been in response to the team knowing Jones wasn’t feeling well, but we can’t say for sure.

The Titans are already without two of their starting offensive lineman in this game, as both left tackle Taylor Lewan (suspension) and right guard Kevin Pamphile (knee, OUT) won’t play for the second-straight week.

Even without those two in Week 1, the Titans offensive line performed admirably and did enough to keep Mariota upright and open up holes for running back Derrick Henry.

Prior to the start of the season, the Titans signed Jones to a two-year contract extension worth $13.5 million.
