There’s a little over two weeks left until the 2013 NFL Draft and teams around the AFC South are tidying up and bringing in future draftees for visits. News isn’t exactly pouring out right now, but here’s some of the better ones from the past few days:

The guys over at Black and Teal released a 3-round mock draft the other day and have the Jacksonville Jaguars taking CB Dee Milliner with the 2nd overall pick, the Tennessee Titans taking WR Cordarrelle Patterson with the 10th pick, and (the surprise pick) the Houston Texans taking QB Matt Barkley. That’s definitely an mock.

Are you a total babe? Well, I’ve always thought the Houston Texans had some of the most gorgeous cheerleaders in the NFL and they’re having their annual tryouts. 35 ladies will make the “final roster,” if you will.

Toro Times looks at what the Texans have left in cap space and some of the vets they could still be looking to add to the roster before the draft. With just under $4 million, it might be a tough squeeze to add much more.

I don’t mean to toot our own horn here, but Joshua Huffman wrote up a great piece the other day about the Titans trading back into the later end of the 1st round. He looks at pick values and what the Titans options are. It’s definitely worth the read.

No one is really sure whether the big, secret free agent that Jim Isray was talking up on Twitter early in free agency was WR Darius Heyward-Bey or not, but I would hope not. The Indianapolis Colts got DHB for a good deal, and he’s got some upside, and having Andrew Luck throwing to him could be the thing that gets him over the hill. The Raiders certainly didn’t present the best scenario.

There’s a brief glimpse at what’s been going on around the AFC South this past week.

It’s April and there’s plenty going on around the AFC South. We’re less than a month away from the 2013 NFL Draft and teams are still filling their needs through free agency, but they’re also bringing in prospects for visits. Let’s take a look at what’s been going on around the AFC South:

The Indianapolis Colts traded DE Clifton Geathers for the Philadelphia Eagles FB Stanley Havili. Can’t say I’ve heard much about either of these guys, but one writer thinks Havili is the bees knees.

HoustonTexans.com rounds up Houston Texans mock draft picks from all over the important places on the interwebs. Surprise, surprise, most of them have the Texans taking a WR.

Blaine Gabbert will be fighting to be the starting QB for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013. Gabbert says “It’s going to be a blast.” I’m sure that’s what he’s thinking. “Man, it’d be awesome if I could lose my job and get slapped with the ‘bust’ label!”

We’re apparently starting in on that part of the year where people who know nothing about specific teams start spewing whatever they want about players. This week, we see that happen to the Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker, who unbeknownst to everyone familiar with the Titans, has confidence issues, a lack of competitiveness, and no mental toughness. I have one response to that:

WR Michael Jenkins has a contract offer from the Jaguars, but he’s still going to visit a few other teams. On another note, Jenkins has also fired his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus seems to have lost a lot of players lately (*note: That’s a year old, but he keeps losing guys) ….

That’s what’s going on around the AFC South. Questions, comments, complaints? Leave ‘em below in the comments.

Here’s this week’s edition of the Around the AFC South links and commentary. It seems things should be quieting down soon. The free agency market has significantly thinned out and teams are prepping for the draft. Now let’s look at what was going on in the AFC South this past week:

The Houston Texans signed P Shane Lechler to a 3-year deal worth $5.5 million dollars. Apparently Lechler is pretty excited to be a part of the Texans, not only for the chance at a post season berth, but also to return home.

WR Jordan Shipley has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shipley had played the last six games of this past season with the Jaguars. Shipley was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010 with their third-round pick.

Colts.com recaps RB Vick Ballard’s rookie season. The fifth-round pick did a pretty good job for the Colts, leading them in rushing with 814 yards.

The Baltimore Ravens now have a presence in the AFC South, with Ed Reed signing a four-year deal with the Houston Texans and Bernard Pollard signing a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans. Speaking of the Ravens, who do they still have left on defense?

Tennessee is still looking at some bigger free agent DE’s. They could wait until the draft to bring in another rotational guy, and with each day that passes, that seems more and more likely.

Former Colts DE Dwight Freeney looks like he may be headed to Denver after the Ravens successfully signed Elvis Dumervil.

It scares me when I’m looking for links for all four of these teams and the results are turning up a little dry. The real offseason is drawing near the end. There is still one thing to look forward to, though….

31 days until the 2013 NFL Draft.
