The Tennessee Titans have to make a decision about WR Kenny Britt after the 2013 season. His contract will be played out and they’ll have to decide whether or not to give him a new contract. All signs seem to be pointing to the Titans passing on him unless he can truly turn things around in 2013. Britt has all the talent in the world but his off the field troubles and health has left the Titans feeling quite unsatisfied.

The Titans will be forced to look for another number one receiver to take his place, whether it be this year or next. If they do choose to do it this year, the Titans have some options, one of the best being WR Dwayne Bowe.

Bowe stands 6’2 with 221 lbs and has been the best thing about the Chiefs for a while. Despite having played with a variety of lackluster QB’s, most recently Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn, Bowe has put up great numbers.

Courtesy: ESPN

Bowe will be turning 29 at the start of the 2013 season. Jake Locker needs a good WR out there to help him out. Bowe has been known to make some pretty ridiculous catches.

The Titans may choose not to bring in a free agent this year, and if so, they’ll have to suffer the consequences if Britt goes down with an injury, which isn’t too far fetched. Bowe would bring consistent play and great hands to a team that needs a big receiver out there to make plays. Bowe’s a great NFL talent and players like him don’t often hit the free market. With Reid in town, Bowe may even decide to stay in town.

If Bowe does leave town, he won’t come cheap, but that’s to be expected. Playmakers want playmaker money, just ask CJ1.5k.

It’d be wise to at least give him a look. This offense needs more playmakers.

It has just been reported that Stanford Routt has signed a contract with the Chiefs for 3-years at $19.6 million. The deal includes a $4 million dollar signing bonus, and he is scheduled to make $6 million in his first year. This is on top of money he is still owed by the Raiders, who cut him despite still owing him $5 million for the 2012-2013 season as a result of a contract extension that guaranteed him $20 million over two season. For those not keeping track, that results in Routt “earning” $30 million in two years of play, one of which saw him get beat for 8 TD’s, placing him 2′nd worst in the league in that department, and the other of which has yet to be played.

I know speed is always looked upon as an asset, especially amongst coaches and owners, and perhaps I’m just not familiar enough with his play to make a true judgement, but this guy doesn’t seem to be quite the player his contracts would lead us to believe. It should also be noted that despite apparent interest from the Titans Front Office, Routt never did make the trip over here.

Also of note is how much cash the Chiefs have invested in their secondary. Next year sees bases of roughly $6 million, $6 million, and $5 million be paid out to Routt, Flowers, and Berry. Those three combined contracts, taking into account performance and off-season bonuses, amount to 14 years and $130 million (Routt: 3 yrs/$20 mil – Flowers: 6 yrs/$50 mil – Berry: 5 yrs/$60 mil) for an average of 9.29 mil per season. We shall see if the their secondary becomes as dangerous as the contracts should dictate.
