Well, so much for holding out on that hope.

As per Jim Wyatt, the Tennessee Titans have released offensive assistant Tom Moore. Moore was brought in as an assistant to help out with the offense after Munchak dismissed coordinator Chris Palmer with about 5 weeks left in the season. Then quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains was promoted to interim offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season. Munchak asked Moore to come in and aid in the transition.

Tom Moore was who Mike Munchak had wanted as his offensive coordinator when taking the head coaching job two years ago. At the time, Moore was coming off of knee surgery and felt unable to adequately perform the duties expected of him for the position. Apparently that is no longer the case as he is openly looking for an offensive coordinator position.

There was a bit of hope, as well as speculation, that during this off-season Moore would be given the offensive coordinator position, and Loggains would go back to his old post, a little richer in experience. The first inkling that this wasn’t happening was when the Titans brought in John Shoop to interview for the quarterbacks coach, their only off-season interview to date. Obviously this isn’t going to happen.

The most important part of the article , however, is Tom Moore’s quote “They have their coaching staff set there at Tennessee, and I don’t want anybody’s job. I want a job that is open,”. So apparently we can all stop holding our breath that the Titans might make a move at the OC position and get one of the bigger names with a proven background that have been out there since Black Monday.

That means Dowell Loggains is it folks. All I can do is hope that his relationship with Locker allows him to implement a scheme that the players we have can run, and that he doesn’t try to prove himself by going over the top with complication. In his defense, he didn’t have time to implement his offense on the fly last year, and all he could do was trim down the complication of Palmer’s. There was a noticeably excited reaction from the skill players on the offense when this move was made mid-season. I can only take that as a good sign.

So how do you feel? Excited? Mad? Sad? Don’t care anymore because you feel like nothing will ever change with this franchise?

The Tennessee Titans suffered another humiliating loss yesterday at the hands of the Chicago Bears. Titans owner Bud Adams then let everyone know, if this ship doesn’t right itself, jobs will be lost.

Even if the Titans do turn things around, how much of a turnaround can they make and how can they erase such a poor showing from the first half of the season?

This team has been the definition of inconsistency, especially on offense. They shown a lack of aggression on defense and a lack of trust in their personnel, playing to protect themselves from the big play leaving plenty of space underneath for teams to pass all over them.

The Titans have plenty of talent on the roster and should be a competitive team by all means.

It’s been particularly frustrating watching the defense throughout the first half of the season. Until the past few games, there hasn’t been many adjustments to the defensive scheme. DC Jerry Gray joined the Titans and spoke of all sorts of exotic blitzes and a very aggressive defense.

It took nearly 8 games to see them put Akeem Ayers on the line, something that has been a great boost at the DE position, a spot lacking depth. Ayers has seen almost more success in terms of getting to the QB than any of the DE’s.

Back to the offensive side, the Titans haven’t done anything more to get the ball to TE Jared Cook, a guy who should be having an amazing season. He’s not being targeted anymore than he was last year, but he is catching more of those balls.

He’s one of the Titans biggest offensive weapons and toughest matchups for other teams and shows just how out of funk the Titans staff is.

The season’s halfway over and the Titans are sitting at 3-6 with their playoff hopes looking to be even worse than last year. It’s going to take a miracle to turn this team around.

Even if they can, does a staff that had to be beaten so badly and publicly humiliated to make the needed changes to a struggling team deserve to keep their jobs? Only time will tell.

One thing you can know for certain: Bud Adams clock is nearing it’s end and he knows it. He’s going to do what ever he thinks will put this team in place to make a run for the Super Bowl next year. This could be another crazy offseason we’re headed towards…

Via the Tennessean:

The Tennessee Titans have stated that they will not be retaining secondary coach Marcus Robertson and assistant secondary coach Curtis Fuller. Robertson has been a part of the Titans for 19 years as a combination of player, coach and front office member. Fuller had just completed his first season with the team.

“I want to thank Marcus and Curtis for their time here,’’ Coach Mike Munchak said. “After meeting with the coordinators over the last couple of days, we decided to make this move today. Letting Marcus go was not an easy thing. He spent so many great years with this organization as a player, front office employee and a coach. I respect both men, but I wanted to move in a different direction for both of these spots. The interview process might take some time, but we will find the right fits for the secondary room moving forward.”

And so begin the changes…
