With all the fun moves the Tennessee Titans have been making lately, there is a lot to be excited about in Nashville. The problem is the defensive secondary is still skeptical at best. Jon Robinson needs to get a new cornerback.

Before Jason McCourty was cut by the Tennessee Titans, the cornerback situation in Tennessee was acceptable. It was not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it could work. Unfortunately, general manager Jon Robinson needed salary cap space and got rid of the veteran. The Titans have an inexperienced cornerback corps that needs a lot of help. With the season coming soon, there are still some cornerbacks on the market that can add a veteran presence to the Titans defense.

Darrelle Revis

Once considered the best cornerback in the NFL, Darrelle Revis is looking for a job. He had a bit of a rough season in New York in 2016, though his numbers were not as bad as it seemed. Sure, Revis looked like he lost a step, but he is also worth a look. According to Pro Football Reference, the former Pittsburgh product had one interception and 43 tackles last season. Sure, his interceptions were down, but the tackles were pretty on par with the rest of his career.

It is actually amazing that no team has taken a chance on Revis yet. Revis also has the veteran presence that would be perfect for a young Titans team. As a Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots, Revis will be able to mentor the young players on the roster. This specifically applies to Adoree’ Jackson, the rookie corner out of USC. If Revis can be a mentor, that will be great for the future of the young rookie.

Alterraun Verner

As mentioned earlier this offseason, Alterraun Verner is the perfect guy for the job. As a former Titan, Verner has all the credentials to be a great slot corner. He is still young enough to have a productive season and is only two years removed from decent production. No one would be expecting Verner to come in and take the starting job. He would definitely have a chip on his shoulder though. Coming back to where he had success also is a factor in this as well. A familiar atmosphere can go a long way for a player looking to make a come back. At one point, Verner was the face of the Titans secondary. He should get a chance to come back and be a mentor to the young players on the roster now.

Leon Hall

To go with the common theme of this list, Leon Hall is a veteran cornerback that is looking to get another chance in the NFL. Also known as one of the top corners in the league at one point, Hall is coming off a down year. Going into his age 33 season, Hall would be an excellent mentor to bring into the Titans secondary. Although Hall may have lost a step, he can still play the position. As long as the Titans are not relying on the former Michigan Wolverine to start on the outside he would be a good pick-up. Hall always played the game the right way and had an eye for making the right tackles. He also excelled in pass defense as well. Hall would be a welcome addition to the Titans roster.

Conclusion

All in all, there are not many great options at cornerback. If trades were more prevalent in the NFL, that may be a position the team would look into. Robinson does not need to jump and make a run at Richard Sherman, but it is tough going into the season with only one proven cornerback on the roster. Hopefully, Jackson and Logan Ryan both play well and the Titans do not need a veteran presence besides Ryan. Also. look for management to pay attention to cuts as the preseason moves along. As the only real glaring hole on the roster, none of these players stand out as must adds. All of them have their flaws and may cost more money than they deserve. That is probably the main reason they are still on the market.
