The Tennessee Titans make so much sense for Dwight Freeney.

Last year the Tennessee Titans made long time rival Andre Johnson a member of the  Tennessee Titans.

While you could argue there were mixed results, I think that they could do something similar this year with veteran pass rusher Dwight Freeney.

First of all, don’t make the mistake of thinking he is washed just yet.

Though he only had 3 sacks last year, Vic Beasley credits his transformation from bad rookie to league leading sack artist to Dwight Freeney:

“He’s meant so much to me…Bringing him on this team and into this organization has been a great help. He just preaches a work-hard mentality and compete at a high level and the way to prepare yourself each and every week.”

His presence isn’t just a boost off the field, while he was on the field PFF had him graded as a better pass rusher than Derrick Morgan, DeMarcus Ware, Frank Clark, Nick Perry, or even his teammate Vic Beasley.

So he clearly has a marketable skill: getting pressure on the quarterback. Combine that with his ability as a teacher and I don’t see why he wouldn’t make a ton of sense as a 3rd pass rusher on this team to pair with Kevin Dodd.

Don’t forget, former stars can add something. If not for Andre Johnson catching a pass in triple coverage the Tennessee Titans playoff dreams could have died in Detroit.

Also, it makes a ton of sense for Freeney too. He has always seemed to love playing for up and coming teams with deep playoff aspirations and talent at quarterback. He did it with San Diego after he left Indianapolis, then it was Arizona, then Atlanta after that.

He doesn’t want to come in and be a starter, he wants to be used correctly by a smart DC and it makes sense that Dick LeBeau could sell him on being used like James Harrison is being used in Pittsburgh now.

Freeney could make another couple of million while the Tennessee Titans get a player who would be their 2nd/3rd best pass rusher and a great teacher. Win-win.
