Regrets the Tennessee Titans should have from the 2017 NFL Draft.

There are only so many picks the Tennessee Titans could have used to make themselves better in the 2017 NFL Draft.

I think they did well, and putting a grade on it after seeing how the rest of the draft shook out and what they would have had to get instead, you have to put it in the B+ or better range.

More from Titans Draft

The Tennessee Titans came out of the draft with the only WR1 in the class, a dynamic cornerback who also happens to have top-end potential as a return man, a better version of Kendall Wright, a Delanie Walker clone, and one of the top cover linebackers in college football.

Throw in some really late round picks and maybe you end up with a starting offensive linemen, a return man/3rd down back or a pass rusher.

This roster is in tremendous shape, and I don’t have any issue with any starter on this team right now. I think if everything is as good as it looks on paper, the only hole/issue may be the 3rd cornerback slot?

However, there are somethings I probably would have done differently. Here are the regrets I have.

I don’t mean from 5 to 12 or anything, I mean a move from 18 to 23. Based on this trade chart from Rich Hill, the compensation for that move would have been pick 87 (3rd round).

I believe the Tennessee Titans could probably have still landed Adoree Jackson there while the New York Giants could have either gotten O.J. Howard (a better tight end than what they drafted at 23) or their choice of offensive tackle.

The Tennessee Titans could have then attempted to move that pick and pick 124 for pick 70 based on that same chart. The New York Jets traded that pick, so you know based on how the draft went they would have probably done the same thing.

The Titans could have then had Taywan Taylor with that pick, and still had picks 83 and 100 to add Jonnu Smith and other player. Someone like Cam Sutton, Derek Rivers, Jourdan Lewis, or Cordrea Tankersley.

It just would have given the Tennessee Titans an extra pick in the top 100 to play around with. However, if the Tennessee Titans love their new players then I have no issue with them

    sticking and picking.

No pass rusher in the top 6 rounds

I haven’t watched enough of Josh Carraway yet to know if I like him. From what I read he is a speed rusher with limitations everywhere else. I am alright with that as a 4th option, but that is assuming Dodd will come in this year and be a very good 3rd EDGE.

I would have liked for them to take someone earlier like at the end of the 3rd where they could have landed Carl Lawson, Vince Biegel or Deatrich Wise. This Titans need needs more depth at EDGE, and if Jonnu Smith doesn’t pan out they may look back on that and wonder if they made a mistake.

    Only one cornerback

Let me preface this by saying I am a LeShaun Sims fan. I think he can be a good boundary cornerback in the NFL. However, I really would like for them to have a 4th cornerback in case there are injuries or a steep learning curve.

Right now their top CBs are very good, especially when you compare it to where they were last year. However, the first cornerback off the bench is either Kalan Reed or Brice McCain now that Jason McCourty is gone.

I am not confident there now, and maybe the Tennessee Titans will use three safeties in their dime package instead of 4 CBs to compensate for that. However, I know that this needs to be a position to keep an eye on as this season goes on.
