The Tennessee Titans have impressed me on offense this pre-season and I am so ready for the regular season to kick off this Sunday.
Quarterback Jake Locker has looked solid in his snaps thus far showing poise and accuracy. I think most Titans fans would agree we have a good QB in Locker “if” he could stay healthy. That’s a major if though.
Locker has a good arsenal of weapons at his disposal with WR Kendall Wright, WR Nate Washington, WR Justin Hunter, TE Delanie Walker, and newly acquired weapons RB/WR Dexter McCluster and rookie RB Bishop Sankey.
Locker entered the final week of pre-season with 119.9 QB passer rating with a very efficient 70% pass completion.
I really hope Locker is able to stay upright this year and avoid unnecessary hits so he can stay on the field. On a side note, in the event that he does miss time, rookie QB Zach Mettenberger has been very impressive in pre-season.
Mettenberger led the NFL pre-season stats in passing yards with 504 through three games. He also has a cool 68.6% completion percentage to go with it. However, Mettenberger’s downside is his 4 turnovers he has. That comes with rookie trial and error.
Former Titans backup QB, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and current Houston Texans’ starting QB, may have had the experience but I truly feel that if the Titans had to rely on Mettenberger he would deliver better.
In a recent article on NFL.com two analysts graded Mettenberger with a B- talking about his “raw talent” and “cannon arm” but still is a work in progress. One of the analysts described him as having “high highs” and “low lows”.
Going forward into the season I really look forward to seeing how McCluster is utilized. I also look forward to seeing Sankey get the ball more and more opportunities with the first team offense.
