Who’s the greatest player in Tennessee Titans, (Tennessee) and Houston Oilers history? Titan Sized asked that question a couple weeks ago after NFL.com media analyst Elliot Harrison selected the all-time greatest players for each organization. His choice for the Tennessee Titans, Houston Oilers franchise: Bruce Matthews.
Results are on the right. Matthews was the leading vote-getter with 13 of 39 votes. Steve McNair came in second place with 10. Rounding out the list was Earl Campbell (7), Other (4), Eddie George (3) and Keith Bulluck (2). “Other” probably would’ve gone to Warren Moon or maybe new-age fans would take Chris Johnson.
A bunch of high quality players. Matthews made his living as one of the NFL’s greatest and most versatile offensive linemen. McNair was a highly respected figure who was the face of the franchise from the late-90s and well into the 2000s. Campbell had a few seasons where he was arguably the NFL’s top running back while George was consistently one of the NFL’s most reliable workhorses for nearly a decade.
Can any of the current Titans players work their way into that conversation once this decade ends?
