C.J. Mosley, LB, Green Bay Packers (3)
I’m just going to copy-and-paste a comment that I made to another Green Bay Packers fan in regards to this pick:
… But it sounds as though Micah Hyde will start at safety. They just took Datone Jones last year so I’m not seeing another first-round DE like Hageman. None of the NTs are worth 21. Many experts say they need TE but Quarless is perfect for getting that ground game going. Use Bostick for the passing game. They don’t use first-rounders on offensive skill-position players (love the idea of Brandin Cooks with Aaron Rodgers though). So that leaves me with C.J. Mosley, Ryan Shazier, Kyle Van Noy or a trade down.
The Packers are the first playoff team from last season to pick in this years draft. They could go in several directions here depending on how the first twenty picks pan out. Green Bay would be thrilled if linebacker C.J. Mosley is here for the taking. Mosley is an intriguing prospect, but he did have some injury issues while attending Alabama. For this reason his draft stock has fluctuated from as high as the top ten, to as low as the bottom of the first round. Pairing Mosley with ILB A.J. Hawk would really solidify Green Bay’s linebacker core.
The two elite safeties in this draft (Clinton-Dix & Pryor) are off the board, and Jimmie Ward would be a definite reach at #21. So, Green Bay fills another need with the consensus #1 inside linebacker in this draft: CJ Mosley. The Alabama product brings with him some legitimate injury concerns; however, he’ll have some time to ease his way into the NFL with the Packers.
