Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh (3)
The Bears run defense was dismal last year, in fact it was dead last in the league. By picking DT Aaron Donald, they not only draft potentially the best DT in the draft but they add a pivotal piece to their run defense. By the way, Donald had 11 sacks last year. Donald would bring interior disruption to a team that lacked any, if at all last season.
Aaron Donald is a monster. He is a name that most probably just learned due to the outstanding Senior Bowl and Pro Day he had during the draft process. The Bears lost defensive tackle Henry Melton to the Cowboys in free agency, and can look for Donald to replace him, and possibly have higher production than Melton had during his time in Chicago. With the addition of Lamarr Houston in free agency, and Aaron Donald in the draft, this Bears defensive line can get back to collapsing the pocket and getting to the quarterback.
Chicago would be ecstatic if DT Aaron Donald fell to them at No. 14. The Pittsburgh product is said to be one of the top defensive players in the entire draft class. He would fit in Chicago’s Tampa 2 defense nicely as a 3-tech DT. They added some edge-rush help by signing DE’s Jared Allen, Lamarr Houston, and Willie Young through free agency. Addressing the interior pass-rush through the draft would really transform the Bears’ defensive line.
