Anthony Barr, DE/LB, UCLA (1)
The Giants defense has been known for its relentless pass-rush in the past. They have let former defensive ends Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck leave through free agency over the last few seasons. They could inject some youth and explosiveness into their front seven by selecting OLB/DE Anthony Barr. Pairing him with DE Jason Pierre-Paul would make an extremely athletic pass-rushing duo.
Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri (1)
Kony Ealy doesn’t receive as much recognition as his former teammate Michael Sam, the former Co-SEC Defensive Player of the Year who’s known for admitting his homosexuality to the media. Regardless, Ealy is considered as the better NFL prospect who will likely get selected during Day 1 or very early Day 2.
The Giants have seen Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck depart over the last two offseasons. It’s time to replenish the pass-rush potential on a team that severely lacks in their front seven. This is a team that used to spend very high picks on pass-rush specialists even when they owned one of the NFL’s elite duos. It’s reasonable to assume that they’d spend a high one on a defensive end when they need immediate production.
Ealy and Dee Ford are the top choices. Other non-DE choices include TE Eric Ebron, DT Aaron Donald and DE/LB Anthony Barr (all off my board).
