The #Titans have agreed to terms with WR Marc Mariani on a one-year contract

The Tennessee Titans surprised some folks when they re-signed Marc Mariani to a one-year contract. He joins Dexter McCluster and Leon Washington as potential assets in the return game. McCluster appears like a sure bet to make the roster as he just signed a multi-year contract during the opening minutes of the 2014 NFL free agency period. Now whether Ken Whisenhunt is willing to risk using him on special teams? That’s another story.
Washington and Mariani? One should expect them to compete for a 53-man roster spot. Keeping two additional return specialists who have little-to-no impact at their offensive positions makes little sense. For Tennessee, this gives them insurance in case anybody gets injured during the preseason. They don’t need anymore safeties during Week 1 opening kickoff.
No reason to get upset about this. It looks strange but it costs next to nothing. The Titans could release him before the season begins. A little competition never harmed anybody.
