REPORT: Tennessee Titans Sign Dexter McCluster to 3-Year, $12 Million

Approximately 15 minutes after the 2014 NFL free-agency period starts and the Tennessee Titans, much like last season, waste no time adding outside talent to their roster.

Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports that former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver / return specialist Dexter McCluster has agreed to join the Titan on a three-year, $12-million contract. This deal a guaranteed $4.5 million. This news comes around the same time that the team re-signed veteran return specialist Leon Washington.

Expect McCluster to play the Danny Woodhead role in Ken Whisenhunt‘s offense. The 25-year-old utility player had 53 receptions for 511 yards with with two touchdowns. At 5-8 and 170 pounds (, he’s similar to what fans who wanted Darren Sproles were hoping for. McCluster does have experience playing running back.  In 2013, McCluster had 58 punt returns for 686 yards with two touchdowns. Eleven of those 58 returns went for 20-plus yards.

One immediate Twitter reaction was that this is another nail in the coffin for Chris Johnson‘s future in Tennessee. I’d say that with Washington and McCluster, it’s spells a certain end for Marc Mariani. There’s no purpose for re-signing the free agent who has missed the last two seasons with injuries.
