REPORT: Tennessee Titans Re-Sign Bernard Pollard, 2-Year Contract

No franchise tag needed for this one. The Tennessee Titans managed to reach a 2-year contractual agreement with safety Bernard Pollard. Re-signing Pollard means that this defense will retain both starting safeties and at least three-fourths of the starting defensive backfield from one season ago. The Titans have yet to reach an agreement with Alterraun Verner. The franchise tag deadline has passed.

Many fans consider re-signing Verner as the No. 1 offseason priority. Retaining Pollard was at least as important. He’s a fiery player who brings an aggressive presence to Ray Horton’s defense. Pollard is a leader who has experience in hybrid 3-4 defenses. Had Pollard departed, the Titans wouldn’t have had the same depth or even draft options that they’ll have at the No. 11 pick. The Titans don’t have a Coty Sensabaugh or Blidi Wreh-Wilson caliber of prospect waiting in the wings.

Very glad to see this one get done before he hit the free-agent market. A good, yet affordable player who can have a significant impact on any playoff contender. Anyone who had Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix mocked to the Titans with the No. 11 pick? It’s time to change it.
