It appears as though the coordinators are set. On Jan. 17, Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reported that former San Diego Chargers tight end coach Jason Michael had agreed to join Ken Whisenhunt as the Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator. Now he lures Ray Horton away from the Cleveland Browns. Horton will replace Jerry Gray as the defensive coordinator.
Horton spent one season with the Browns. Before that, Horton served as the defensive coordinator on Whisenhunt’s 2011 and 2012 Arizona Cardinals teams. Horton spent the previous seven seasons (2004-10) as the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back coach.
Take note of “Plans to join.” Each side must work out a few contractual details. According to Wyatt:
According to sources, some items in Horton’s deal – he still had three years remaining on his contract with the Browns — still need to be agreed upon, but that’s expected to happen in the coming days. The NFL office is closed until Tuesday, so that’s the earliest the deal could become official.
