Week 16 was just the second win in eight attempts for a Tennessee Titans team that has dropped off since losing Jake Locker to a season-ending foot injury in Week 10. No wins means no player-of-the-week polls. A Week 16 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars changed that, at least for one week.
A number of Titans had solid performances in that 20-16 victory. Most respondents agreed that Bernard Pollard‘s special team and defensive contributions were the most significant. A blocked extra point attempt doesn’t look like much until the opponent is threatening outside the red zone with approximately six minutes remaining. Because Pollard had blocked the extra point, what normally would’ve been a 20-17 score with a pending field-goal attempt was 20-16 with 4th-and-short. Pollard stuffed that short run as the Jaguars had a turnover on downs.
This offseason, Pollard will become a free agent. He hasn’t made any promises on whether he’ll return in 2014, although he has acknowledged that he’s interested in an extension. For the season, Pollard has 93 tackles with three interceptions and 0.5 sacks. He has a career-high five stuffs (ESPN).
Look for Pollard to close out his season with another solid performance against the Houston Texans in Week 17.
